MURANG'A COUNTY ASSEMBLY UNANIMOUSLY APPROVES THE BBI BILL

Members of the County Assembly of Murang’a have unanimously approved the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2020 during its morning sitting held on February 23, 2021 at the County Assembly Chambers.
The motion was moved by the Chairperson of the Committee on Governance, Labour, Social Services, Justice and Legal Affairs, Hon. Isaac Kamote, the Member of the County Assembly representing the People of Wangu Ward and seconded by Hon. Amos Murigi, the Member of County Assembly representing the people of Kimorori/Wempa Ward.
In their remarks, Members noted that the 5% Ward Development Fund proposed in the Bill, would ensure further decentralization of funds, enable equitable distribution of development funds in the County and enable Members of the County Assembly to realize major development milestones and transformation through undertaking projects in the Wards.
The female MCAs while giving a nod to the Bill, expressed confidence that the creation of women Senate seats, as envisioned in the Bill, would go a long way in ensuring gender parity in representation and enable women to partake in decision making process in the Country.
