VETERAN POLITICIAN CALLS FOR PEACE AMONG COUNTY LEADERS AND COUNTY RESIDENTS
Jun 09, 2016
The Chair of the Council of Eminent Persons of Murangá Hon. Dr. Charles Rubia Wanyoike on June 8, 2016 delivered his maiden Address to the Members of the Murangá County Assembly.
Dr. Rubia who was accompanied by his sons and other high profile guests urged the legislatures to be advocates of peace and tranquility especially during this time the country is experiencing political anxiety.
“I speak of peace as the only guarantee for sustainable freedom and development for our people, our county, our country and our continent. Let us be agents of harmony especially now we are at war with al shabbaab terrorists in Somalia and are headed for general elections next year.” He said.
He insisted that election time is particularly risky and a time when the danger of violence becomes very real adding that the periods prior to and after the polls are the most volatile in many African states where they face a real challenge to stability.
He urged legislatures to contest for leadership positions without degenerating into violent conflict among communities saying that leaders had a moral duty to foster unity, cohesion and peaceful coexistence among our people. This is the surest way to winning the war against poverty, ignorance, disease, tyranny and ensuring sustainable development and democratic freedoms” He said.
His sentiments were echoed by Murang’a Deputy Governor Hon. Gakure Monyo and Senator Hon Kembi Gitura who termed the visit as historical and said more of such forums should be convened to sensitize members of their role, duties and obligations to residents of Murang’a County.
