MURANG'A COUNTY ASSEMBLY SET TO AMMEND ITS LAWS TO CURB THEFT OF AVOCADO FRUIT AND EXPORT OF SUBSTANDARD AVOCADO


Murang’a County Assembly is scheduled to amend the Avocado Act which was enacted in 2019 in a bid to curb the rampant theft of avocado fruit and export of substandard and unripe fruits to the international markets.
During a meeting between the Avocado Farmers Association headed by the Chairman, Mr. Mwaniki, the County Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker, Hon. Nduati Kariuki and the County Commissioner, all agreed on a raft of measures to safeguard the Avocado farmers and export of the fruit.
1. THAT the County Assembly amends The Murang’a County Avocado Bill 2019 to regulate the sector against theft and export of sub standard and
unripe avocado fruits.
2. THAT all farmers to issue authentic receipts to buyers at the point of sale to allow for traceability of fruit.
3. THAT security agents to apprehend and impound any person or vehicle found transporting avocado fruits without evidence of origin by way of an
authentic receipt as proof of source.
